How to break through procrastination and get work done

Hi friends, welcome to my blog post in over a year. I fell far behind and forgot to blog as life happened to me. I was reviewing my goals the other day and realise that I had procrastinated and had excuses why I haven’t blogged for a  month. So, I set out to change things. I redesigned my website and got a logo. I made it faster and visually appealing while ensuring that user experience is smooth.

The video above just talks about how you can improve yourself. To improve ourselves, we must get past procrastination and take action on our dreams. So, today’s post focuses on some lessons I picked up whilst reflecting on procrastination and why we don’t take action on the goals that really matter to us. Below are my thoughts and I hope you pick up some nuggets along the way.

Think about the big picture and what benefit you will gain from taking action. Have the end goal in mind and really think about how the current task feeds into your major life goals.

Realise that you cannot run away from the task, you will have to get it done at the end. The time you have wasted will have been put to effective use. You will have produced a better result if you start early. There is so much to gain from starting early

Use the 5 seconds rule to start the action process. This will help you overcome laziness and push you into action. Most of the time, we just struggle to take the first action.

Plan your day ahead and write your goals down. This helps bring clarity, helps you see how your daily activities is leading to your major goals and vision for your life.

Jim Rohn said failure is errors in judgment/disciplines practiced each day. This is profound because we don’t see the result of our actions in when you look at each day but if you look further down the line, say in a month’s time or in a year’s time, then you will realise just how far behind you are.

To bring this point home, for students whilst in school, you knew you needed to study daily but for whatever reason, you don’t. Days turn into weeks and weeks into months and then towards exams, you realise how far behind you are and how much you need to make up for. You stress out as you can’t meet up and you begin to burn the midnight candle in the hopes you catch up with the syllabus. You might pass your exams but your grades wouldn’t have been as good as you want it to be.

So, I challenge you to be better than your excuses and get work done. This is your life, take charge of it. Eliminate procrastination and just get to work.

P.S.: I will love to hear your thoughts on this in the comment section below. Feel free to share this post and like our Facebook page using the like box to your right.

Beginning of an exciting time in Malaysia

What a scenery.

Hi guys, it has definitely been a while since I last blogged. I will try and keep this short. I am away in Malaysia at the moment. The journey started in Belfast by 10am and we left for Dublin and took a flight to London Heathrow and then we left for Kuala Lumpur (KL). It was a 13 hour flight to KL and the whole journey was approximately 30 hours.

We settled down and Sunday was an amazing day. I have been awake since 2.30am this morning, Monday, and it looks like a long day ahead. I can’t sleep much because of the time difference and my computer is still set to British time which is 7 hours behind Malaysia. So yesterday being Sunday was a stressful but fun filled day

Important highlights were our visit to the city centre which was organised by Queen’s alumni association here in KL, Madam Kwans where we ate and the food was amazing.

Then we went to Central Market where we shopped and I haggled with some seller. It brought back feelings of home. We came back to our accommodation and had to attend the opening ceremony of the Tri Campus event which will last for a week.

After this we had dinner and then I came home and went straight to bed yesterday. I avoided putting on my computer because it keeps me awake. I will be uploading the videos I took once I have them compiled. Here are pictures from the past 2 days.

In conclusion, when you see an opportunity you want, just seize it and don’t let an excuse stop you. You will be thankful you did.

What the Bamboo Tree teaches about success (video included)

The story of the Bamboo tree teaches me so many things with the major one being that when we get our roots deep down and build our foundation and dreams, the time will come when we will experience exceptional growth.

It has been a time of enormous learning for me as I began to think more deeply and ask the right questions. I am beginning to study, learn and grow as an individual. Here are five lessons the bamboo tree teaches us about success below this video:

Five lessons the bamboo tree teaches us about success:

  1. That anything great doesn’t just happen. It always takes time before you begin to see any signs of success
  2. That you must water and fertilise your dreams everyday and this comes in the form of speaking to yourself and reading books. They day you stop fertilising your dreams, is the day it begins to die.
  3. That you must continue to grow your roots which no one sees, so you can draw up the minerals you need for rapid growth.
  4. That you must never stop believing in yourself or look at the other person who begins to achieve great success that you forget you are a bamboo tree in the making. Sometimes, you don’t even know their own bamboo tree story.
  5. That you must be consistent in whatever you do whether the world takes notice or not. You must be like the musician who gave his best performance every night to an audience of 1 until the whole world came watching.

The last point applies to me mostly and it is time to get consistent. More posts to come and it is time to grow this page. One last word, keep on working on your dreams, success is just around the corner.

You time to spring up is very soon if not now if you have been working and praying about it

How to make 2016 better than 2015

welcome to 2016

Welcome to the last day of the year and my last post of 2015. On Facebook this morning I saw a post by my friend which gave me the foundation of this blog post. He said something profound and it goes this way:

Most people live the same year over and over again which leaves them caught in the same old drama making that make no difference in their lives whatsoever even though they are in a new year.

I think I understand why some people live in the past. May be because they feel they were at their the best at a particular time causing their minds to keep taking them back to their best year.
I believe this stops them for becoming even much better. Some people are still living in 2013 reliving past glories whilst the world is entering 2016. If you are in this situation, then I beg you to let go of the past even though it is hard and live in the present. A new year will never bring out your best except you burn all bridges (past glories) and make up your mind that 2016 can be the best year of your life.

What then must we do to make sure 2016 is our best year?

There are seven key points we must think deeply about and not all of them might apply to you. It’s a personal list I came up with upon reflection and a few ideas from other sources.

  1. Acknowledge God in all your ways: the bible says, commit your ways to him and he will direct your path. God is the ultimate. Without Him I’m nothing. I need Him now more than ever. I don’t know your belief but for me, God is the number one and I thank Him for life everyday. Only the living can make a difference and there is no work in the grave.
  2. Shun new year resolutions: new year resolutions are now a joke and many people have stopped making them. Statistics show that over 92% of people break their new year resolutions by the second week of January. This is because our resolutions might not be exciting us to take action and we have no one to hold us accountable. May be this could help. Replace your resolutions with what I call an accountability list.
    Here are a few examples:
    – I am accountable for the actions I take to make sure I write my book this year by 25/05/2016 and my brother will be my mentor and I must update him about my progress.
    – I take personal accountability for starting that long forgotten project (my shoe line) by 1/06/2016 and Miss B who have had similar experiences will be my mentor and I must update her about my progress.
    – I take personal accountability to ensure I learn a new course or skill that will triple my income by 3/06/2016 and Mr X will be my mentor to make sure this happens.Hope the examples above helped and here is what it does, it makes you take full responsibility and stops you from coming up with excuses because you take personal accountability. Just try it out for a day or two or even a week and if it does, then feel free to continue with it. Get someone else involved as you can see from the few examples above. Let them now about your goals and always report back to them about the progress you have made. They will keep you in check and encourage you when you start taking action. Action is the reason many people fail with new year resolutions and it is the missing ingredient. Make sure that the person you are accountable to is someone who is a mentor or someone who will push you.
  3. You need a robust plan and you must promise yourself that you will act on it. You need a plan this year if you plan not to fail but succeed. Get your mentor involved or the person who you are accountable to. This brings excitement to the game.
  4. Get a mentor: we all should get one. A mentor is someone who have done what we simply dream of. They help us avoid mistakes and save time because they have been there and done that. You don’t have to figure it all from scratch. Just save yourself time and stress. A mentor is a life saver and can be different from the person you are accountable to
  5. Read two books each month: this can be in your field or a self-help book. Books have a tremendous influence on our lives and we get to learn from the experience of others by reading their books. I can’t state how much I have learnt from books as they have helped me so much to grow and become better. Click here for our recommended books.
  6. Look for new friends: who are doing better than you. Iron sharpens iron and will inspire you to do better. Find those who will encourage you to do better. Don’t joke with this. Becoming better can be a long and lonely journey and you need someone who will encourage you and who you can also talk to when the going gets tough.
  7. Put your family first in everything:  I don’t know why I left this to the end but it is my last point. Most of us do what we do anything for our families. We can go any length to see them happy and well provided for. Some parents work two or three jobs just to make sure their kids go to school, have food on the table, and a roof over their heads. Why not make providing for your family your strong motivator this new year and see how far you can go.

Well, I hope the seven points above made some meaning to you. Resolve that you will do whatever it takes to make sure 2016 becomes your best year ever. Sit back and reflect. Set exciting goals for your accountability list that will get you to the next level. Try and make sure that your goals are bigger than you and involves other people. Be a dreamer and an action taker. Today is a gift that’s why it is called present. You are here for a reason, so why not make 2016 count.
“This is our time, this is our opportunity, let’s make today better than yesterday”.

Thanks for reading and cheers to a great year ahead,

Dear self

letter to self
letter to self picture

It’s been forever since I wrote a letter to you but this letter is a reminder of who you are. Remember those years where you never felt confident and you were always fearful of what you would become. The fear of the unknown future always hunted you. Now, you have become a confident version of your former self. Why because you realise that the only thing you were afraid was you and how much potential you have. This rude awakening has created a new version of you. Look in the mirror ‘self’, and tell me what you see?

“My deepest fear is not that I am inadequate. My deepest fear is that I am powerful beyond measure. I ask my ‘self’, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually who are you not to be? I was born to make manifest the glory of God that is within me. And as I let my own light shine, I unconsciously give other people permission to do the same” (Marianne Williamson). Now do you see that you have a bright future?”

Just remember you can only get better each passing day. Don’t waste your time criticising others rather use that time to make a better you. Dear self, remember that you can’t give what you don’t have. So I ask you self, what do you have? You say you want to change the world but have you changed you? What do you have in you that can bring about the change you seek? You’re 100% full of potential and the world awaits your manifestation.
Dear self, don’t join the crowd who fidgets at the thought of limitations and impossibilities instead let those word make you break boundaries and do things that ‘the crowd’ never knew could be possible.
Dear self, keep this letter and read this as a continuous reminder of how you ought to see the world and ultimately yourself’.
Signing out,
Letter from A Flawless Representative of my Creator who is perfect in all ways….

What it takes to succeed

From http://www.thebandpost.com/2015/09/achieving-success-in-your-band-program/

The word success has different meanings to many people and depending on the meaning given to it, the requirements are different. But I have discovered that there are essential building blocks that will constitute whether someone will be successful regardless of the meaning given to it.

Let’s start from the very definition of the word success but before I give you mine, I want you to sit back and really think of what the word success means to you. Write down your thoughts on paper. In the simplest definition, I think success is the realisation of what you have set out to do at any particular time.

Ingredients of success:

A dream:

Hope the above video got your attention? Well, for me it did. It got me to sit up, dream, and start taking action to make my dream real. You need to have a dream to fuel you and keep you going through the tough times. The journey will no doubt be tough but with your eyes on the price, there will be no stopping you as you will enjoy the journey.

A vision:

The bible says that without this, the people perish. Start by asking yourself, what’s the vision for my life?

A plan:

If you fail to plan, then invariably, you have planned to fail. You need a plan. Think of it as a blueprint or better still, a map. A plan gets you from the dream to the reality. A plan is the bridge between dreams and reality.

Hard work:

This is the point where you begin to act. Action births your dream and goals, You have to promise yourself that you will work hard and never give up or give in to challenges. You must have a tough skin. You must be ready to push yourself to the limit. I speak to you now reading this just as I am speaking to my self. You are an uncommon breed and must align yourself with unstoppable people along the way. The people that are living their dreams are the people who are taking action and believing in themselves.

You have to keep  going even tough it is tough. You must see it for yourself and you must see yourself staying through to achieve your dream. Oh it is going to get so tough and dream actors know this. But the dream is at the end. The end justifies the means. Have the tenacity of a fighter.

Apply caution: this is the final point. You must apply a sixth sense in whatever you are doing. Your mind should tell you when it’s right or wrong. You have to trust  your guts most times for it will tell you the right things to do.

So yeah, you have heard my top ingredients to success. There are many more which will mostly be a subset of this.

From my room of thoughts…

Thank you for taking out time to read this article. I feel honoured to have had you visit my website. If this post made a difference to you, why not pass it on by sharing it to your circle of friends. Will help spread the word and who knows, your action might inspire the next person to use their talents.
